RE: Campus Report for the July 12-13, 2001 Board of Regents’ Meeting
· Donnie J. (DJ) Whitaker has accepted the position of Controller to replace Chuck Jensen. DJ is a Bureau Chief for the Department of Administration and will start full-time on July 30. We are pleased to have hired a highly skilled person with current knowledge of the Montana University System.
· Dr. Kirsten Graham was awarded a Montana Campus Compact Mentoring Fellowship for the 2001-2002 Academic Year. She will conduct a service-learning component in her Personal Computer Configuration class with non-profit organizations in the Helena community. Kirsten will also conduct workshops and support other faculty interested in adopting service learning into their coursework.
· Tentative approval has been given for a Passport Program for $100,000 to support parents of children in homes of less than 150 percent poverty in two-year occupational training at the college level. This program will target at least 20 participants for college education in high wage/high demand occupations. It will be conducted in collaboration with the Career Training Institute in Helena who will provide support services to the students while they are attending the Helena College of Technology.
· The first orientation and registration for Fall 2001 enrollment attracted 111 applicants, which was up 44 percent over last year’s June orientation. The increase is due in part to students registering earlier for the fall enrollment.
