EXPLANATION: To clarify and simplify the mission of Montana State University Northern, the university governance council and all of its constituents recommended to the chancellor the following statement which he is forwarding for the board's consideration.

This statement was viewed as an alternative to the previous page long mission statement that appeared to confuse rather than clarify for the public MSUN's overall aim.

MISSION STATEMENT: Montana State University Northern provides an intellectual environment that fosters critical inquiry, professional and technical competency, and social responsibility.
