ITEM 108-2006-R0700       Increase Student Supplemental Medical Insurance Fee; Montana State University-Bozeman and Montana State University-Northern

 

THAT:                                    The Board of Regents of the Montana University System authorizes Montana State University-Bozeman and Montana State University-Northern to assess a per semester insurance fee as represented on the attached matrix for the Student Medical Insurance program.

 

EXPLANATION:                  This fee is only assessed to students who lack other health insurance coverage.  All campuses listed participate in a joint insurance program (along with three UM campuses) which provides the same levels of medical insurance coverage to participating students.  During the spring of 2000, an RFP was issued for the student insurance program.  Rates for the selected vendor will increase approximately 7% over the previous year. In addition, Montana State University-Bozeman adds a fee to fund a campus-based insurance representative and a fee to fund services provided by the MSU-Bozeman Student Health Service such as pharmacy, lab and x-ray. This latter segment was reduced by $6 for FY 2001 due to very favorable experience during 1999/2000.
