THAT:††††††††††† Thomas J. Steele, Professor of Marketing, in his 16 years of service to The University of Montana, has merited the appreciation and commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned recognition as Professor of Business Administration Emeritus.
EXPLANATION:††††††††††††††††† Thomas J. Steele earned the Bachelor of Science in chemistry and the Master of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University.† While finishing his Ph.D. in marketing from Pennsylvania State University, he began his association with Montana as a visiting associate professor of business for UMís A.F.I.T. program in Great Falls.† After graduation from Penn State, he taught at Idaho State University for 12 years.† Professor Steele then returned to Montana to teach at Eastern Montana College, and in 1987, he came to the Department of Management at The University of Montana-Missoula.
††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† Professor Steeleís love of teaching has been recognized throughout his academic career.† In 1977 Idaho State University students recognized him as the Mortar Board Professor of the Month.† Since returning to Montana, he has received the Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Teaching Award twice, most recently this past year.
††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† In addition to teaching, Professor Steele is an active researcher.† The School of Business Administration has nominated him frequently for the Universityís Distinguished Scholar Award.† His publications appear in many national journals, including Marketing Management Journal, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Legal Studies Education, and Journal of Applied Business Research.
