Item 119-105-R0503 Pay Plan

The Statewide Classified Plan was adopted into Legislation in 1975 (MCA 2-18-301) as Montana state government’s primary classification and compensation system. In 1991 the plan changed from a class specification and position comparison classification system, and 13- step pay range system; to a benchmark point-factor position classification system with open pay ranges. General pay raises are defined in statute for each biennium. Other pay raises can be applied through pay exceptions to promote retention. The plan consists of 25 grades. Grades 1-3 are only used for positions exempt from FLSA and minimum wage requirements. For a list of Job Classes, see Job Code Inventories for Statewide Classified Plan 060.
