ITEM 119-2002-R0503��� ����������� Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry upon Larry L. Jackson; Montana State University-Bozeman

 

THAT:�������������������������������������� Upon the occasion of the retirement of Larry L. Jackson from the faculty of Montana State University, the Board of Regents wishes to express its appreciation for his service to the University, the Montana University system, and the people of the State of Montana.

 

EXPLANATION: ���������������������� Dr. Jackson joined the faculty of Montana State University in 1966 as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry.� Dr. Jackson received his B.S. degree from Montana State University and his Ph.D. from North Dakota State University and served as a faculty member at MSU for all 35 years of his academic career.

 

Dr. Jackson brought a combination of knowledge, excitement, and enthusiasm to his 35 years of teaching biochemistry and basic chemistry to undergraduate students, graduate students and WWAMI medical students at Montana State University.� Additionally, he has participated in several courses and activities focused on creating interest in the sciences for Native American students.� He has served as a research and professional mentor to numerous graduate students, medical students, and undergraduate students, leading them on to careers in biochemistry, medicine, and other scientific fields.

 

His research expertise in lipid structure and metabolism has led to numerous publications that have added information to the understanding of several different aspects of the role of lipids in health and disease.� During his career he has been funded by national agencies such as NSF, USDA, as well as locally by the MSU�s agriculture experiment station.� His research has been recognized by the Charles and Nora L. Wiley Faculty Award for Meritorious Research at MSU.

 

In summary, Dr. Jackson has earned the rank of Professor Emeritus through his commitments to quality and leadership in teaching, research, and public service.� He has served as an outstanding role-model for 35 years for undergraduate, graduate, and WWAMI medical students at Montana State University.

 

For these and other contributions, the Board of Regents of Higher Education is pleased to confer Larry L. Jacksonthe rank of Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montana State University and wishes him well for many years in the future.
