THE MONTANA ARTICULATION MODEL FOR NURSING EDUCATION:

 

PURPOSE:� The purpose of the Montana Articulation Model for Nursing Education is to facilitate career mobility for LPN to ASN RN and/or LPN to Baccalaureate RN and ASN RN to Baccalaureate RN

 

LPN to ASN

For Progression To The ASN RN Degree in Nursing,

Applicants must:

For ASN RN Progression to The Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing,

Applicants must:

 

      Hold an unencumbered, active MT license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

      Have graduated from an approved Practical Nursing education program.

      Have completed each Practical Nursing course with a �C� or better.

      Meet the specific admission requirements of the institution/program to which s/he is applying

 

 

   Hold an unencumbered, active MT license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

   Have graduated from an approved Practical Nursing education program.

   Have completed each Practical Nursing course with a �C� or better.

   Meet the specific admission requirements of the institution/program to which s/he is applying

 

 

   Hold an unencumbered, active� MT license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

   Have graduated from an approved registered nursing education program

   Have completed each prior nursing course with a grade of �C� or better

   Meet the specific admission requirements of the program to which s/he is applying.

ASN Programs Participating In The Articulation Model will:

      Participate on a voluntary basis

      Meet current MT Board of Nursing program requirements

      Utilize the Validation/Transition Course or Escrow bypass for the advanced placement mechanism of articulation students.

      Establish the same graduation requirements for generic and articulation students.

 

      Participate on a voluntary basis

      Meet current MT Board of Nursing program requirements

      Utilize the Validation/Transition Course or Escrow bypass for the advanced placement mechanism of articulation students.

      Not require a work experience.

      Record credit in terms of receiving institution.

PLACEMENT MECHANISM FOR ADVANCEMENT

 

VALIDATION COURSE

ESCROW/BYPASS

 

The LPN to ASN Validation course serves both a validation purpose and a transition purpose.� The course validates prior learning, updates and enhances students� knowledge, begins the process of role transition, and prepares them for placement into the AS� RN program.

 

The receiving institution grants nursing Credit after the student has successfully completed the Validation/Transition Course.

 

A.        Eligibility

 

Graduates of approved Practical Nursing Education programs.

 

B.       Minimum Credits Awarded

 

Approximately one years worth of the nursing coursework required by the ASN program receiving institution

 

 

The LPN to Baccalaureate RN Validation course serves both a validation purpose and a transition purpose.� The course validates prior learning, updates and enhances students� knowledge, begins the process of role transition, and prepares them for placement into the Baccalaureate program.

 

The receiving institution grants nursing Credit after the student has successfully completed the Validation/Transition Course.

 

C.     Eligibility

 

Graduates of approved Practical Nursing Education programs.

 

D.     Minimum Credits Awarded

 

Approximately X% of the nursing coursework required by the Baccalaureate program receiving institution

A mechanism that recognizes nursing coursework and awards nursing credits based on the successful completion of upper division nursing courses.

Graduates of approved Associate Degree RN Nursing and Diploma RN Nursing Education programs.

 

B.     Minimum Credits Awarded

 

X% of the nursing coursework required by the receiving institution for the degree.

*�� Actual numbers to be determined after the Baccalaureate programs look at their curriculum and decide number of credits to be awarded to LPN and/or ASN RN programs. Numbers due at next MINT meeting 5/22/02

 

** Except for the specific numbers of credits to be awarded, the articulation group and then the full MINT consortium agreed to the above revised articulation model.
