Montana Rural Physician
Incentive Program

Selection and Approval Processdrbag

Applications are reviewed for program eligibility by an advisory committee appointed by the Commissioner of Higher Education (Board of Regents’ Policy 940.25). Applicants should apply within 90 days of accepting a position in a qualifying location. Applications will be considered once a year. With the inception of the new program July 1, 2009, the 2009 application deadline will be September 30, 2009. However, beginning in 2010 the annual application deadline will be July 1st of each year. Qualified applications are prioritized for participation based upon community needs and the availability of funds.

Preference may be applied to the following:

  • Physicians who contributed to the trust fund during their participation in the WICHE or WWAMI programs.
  • Physicians practicing in remote rural locations will take precedence over those physicians practicing in locations more likely to draw physicians.
  • Primary care physicians.

All advisory committee nominations of physicians to receive awards are submitted to the Montana Board of Regents for final approval.
