About the General Education Core
The institutions that comprise the Montana University System have each developed general education programs for their students, and those programs represent the missions and values of each respective institution, so they are all different. However, since they all include classes that include college level skills for students and broaden student exposure to academic disciplines, the institutions have identified their courses that allow a student to fulfill the MUS General Education Core, which is accepted as meeting the general education component requirement of all four year degree institutions, though institutions may mandate additional “upper division” general education requirements that are specific to the campus that will award the bachelor’s degree. Full information on the policies governing Transfers, including General Education Core transfers in the Montana University System are also available.
The MUS on-line General Education Core represents the total menu of on-line courses offered by the campuses, that have been determined by the General Education Council to meet the general education degree requirements in each approved program area, for two-year and four-year degrees. Additional information is available on General Education and the related Montana University System Core Curriculum. The Annual Report of Distance Programs by campus is also available for review.
