The Montana University System unveiled to Governor Brian Schweitzer its newest online education portal during the Board of Regents meeting on the campus of Montana Tech in Butte Friday.  The Montana Green Campus portal (mtgreen.mus.edu) is a virtual gateway to the Montana University System that emphasizes “green” education, research, and energy-related careers.  This new online portal, which reflects the Governor’s emphasis on “clean & green” energy, went live for the first time with the presentation to the Governor.

Chair of the Board of Regents, Stephen Barrett, told those in attendance that the new Montana Green Campus website was created in response to a challenge issued to the University System by the Governor to increase the availability and accessibility of distance learning.  Barrett stated, “The MT Green Campus, developed in partnership with the Governor’s Office, Montana State University, and The University of Montana, will serve as an environmentally friendly route for accessing higher education through distance learning.  It will also provide a one-stop shop for students and potential employers to find information on energy related careers, degree programs, research, and initiatives occurring throughout the University System and the State.”

From the MT Green Campus, students are provided with easy access to all of the online courses and programs offered in the University System.  Opportunities for distance learning are abundant throughout the State, with more than 500 courses in over 50 programs offered online each semester.  An aggressive expansion of those offerings is a major objective of both Governor Schweitzer and the Board of Regents.

In addition to finding online opportunities through the Montana Green Campus, students and parents can discover, through links to other University system websites and a link to the Governor’s Office of Economic Development website, the many avenues available to pursue an energy-related degree, the breadth of energy-related careers, and the wide variety of research occurring on the university campuses.

“Distance education is a great way for Montanans to not only access higher education, but reduce their carbon footprint and save money on gas all at the same time,” said Governor Brian Schweitzer. “Careers in energy fields in Montana are hot and high quality and this site makes it clear to students and parents what degrees are available in the University System that will take you directly into those career fields. The Montana Green Campus makes it easy to study, work, and live green right here in Montana,” stated Governor Schweitzer.
