Montana University System Names Director of Transferability Initiatives

Helena ---Bill Macgregor, a professor at Montana Tech of The University of Montana, has accepted the new position of Director of Transferability Initiatives with the Montana University System.

Higher Education Commissioner Sheila Stearns announced that Dr. Macgregor’s primary duties will be to work with faculty throughout the Montana University System to develop learning outcomes for freshman and sophomore-level courses that are common throughout the system. The information will be available to students, parents and the Montana public on a single, user-friendly website.

“Bill is a highly-respected English and communications professor at Montana Tech of The University of Montana, with expertise in general education and assessment,” according to Deputy Commissioner Roger Barber. “Bill has served on the Board of Regents’ General Education Council, where he demonstrated his systemwide knowledge and interpersonal skills,” said Barber.

Both the executive and legislative branches supported the Board of Regents in creating this new position in the 2007 session. Dr. Macgregor will focus initially on courses that students most frequently transfer to other units. He will also assist with a related project developing a comprehensive database that can link with K-12 and other state agencies.

Commissioner Stearns stated, “This initiative will take ease of transferability to a whole new level for Montana students. We are fortunate to have a professor with Dr. Macgregor’s experience guiding the effort.”
