ITEM 112-1002-R0701������ Professor Emeritus Status for George L. Card, Professor of Biological Sciences and Microbiology, College of Arts and Sciences; The University of Montana-Missoula

 

THAT:����������������������������������� George L. Card, in his thirty-fourth year of dedicated service to The University of Montana, has merited the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned the title of Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences and Microbiology.

 

EXPLANATION:����������������� Dr. George L. Card earned his Ph.D. degree in 1966 from the University of Nebraska.� Professor Card joined the Microbiology faculty at The University of Montana in 1967.� Professor Card has a well-deserved reputation among faculty colleagues and students as an accomplished, dedicated, and demanding teacher.� Many Microbiology and Biology students, both undergraduate and graduate, have benefited from his capability in the classroom and laboratory and from his careful and well-informed academic and professional advising and mentoring.� His dedication to the welfare and development of students through teaching and advisement remained a guiding principle throughout his career.

 

Professor Card�s research in Microbiology and Biochemistry has resulted in publications and presentations that span his entire career.� As a result of his willingness to share his keen scientific insight and broad vision, he also has had a major and positive effect on the scientific development and achievement of faculty colleagues.� Professor Card�s scientific mentoring provided a key element in the career development of many younger colleagues, who deeply appreciate his influence.� Professor Card has always been an outstanding faculty member and University citizen.
