ITEM 114-1001-R0302������������ Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus upon David H. Jackson, Professor of Forestry, School of Forestry; The University of Montana-Missoula

 

THAT:����������������������������������� Upon the occasion of the retirement of Professor David H. Jackson from the faculty of the School of Forestry of The University of Montana, the faculty wishes to express its appreciation for his years of dedicated and valued service to the School of Forestry, The University of Montana, and the State of Montana by recommending conferral of the rank of Professor Emeritus by the Board of Regents of the Montana University System.

 

EXPLANATION:�������������������� David Jackson earned his baccalaureate degree in 1962 from Ohio University, his Master of Science degree from the University of Oregon in 1971, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Washington in 1972.� He then received a Dissertation Fellowship with Resources for the Future in 1973-1974.� In addition, he received his Ph.D. in Forest Resources at the University of Washington in 1975.� Professor Jackson also received a Charles R. Bullard Fellowship at Harvard University in 1986-1987.� Professor Jackson has served as a Visiting Professor at the United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organization, the Finnish Forest Research Institute, the European Forest Institute, and a Guest Visiting Professor of the Peoples� Republic of China.� He belongs to the Society of American Foresters, Xi Sigma Pi Forestry Honorary Society, and Sigma Xi Scientific Honorary Society.

 

�������������������������������������������� Professor Jackson began his employment at The University of Montana in 1976 as an Assistant Professor with the School of Forestry.� From 1980 to 1985, he earned promotions to Associate Professor and Professor.� He has always enjoyed high student remarks on his courses and his caring attitude.� He has an outstanding publication record of over 50 papers, books and book chapters, journal articles, and Congressional testimonies.

 

�������������������������������������������� In addition to his duties and responsibilities at the School of Forestry, Professor Jackson has served as economics/policy consultant for various agencies, governmental agencies, and has testified in district, superior, and federal courts as an expert witness or economist on numerous occasions.� He has also served as Vice President of the University Teachers� Union, as faculty representative to the Missoula Trades and Labor Council, and as Council Designee to the Missoula Economic Development Corporation.
