ITEM 108-1503-R0700������ Professor Emeritus Status for Professor Joseph E. Kasperick; Montana Tech of The University of Montana

 

THAT:����������������������������������� Upon the occasion of the retirement of Professor Joseph E. Kasperick from the faculty of Montana Tech of The University of Montana, the faculty wishes to express its appreciation for his years of dedicated and valued service to the College, the Department of Business and Information Technology, and the State of Montana by recommending that the rank of Professor Emeritus be conferred upon him by the Board of Regents of the Montana University System.

 

EXPLANATION:����������������� Joe Kasperick was born in Helena, Montana, the son of Dan and Catherine Kasperick, and one of nine children.� He earned his baccalaureate degree in economics from Carroll College in 1963 and his master of arts degree from the University of California, Riverside, in 1967.� In addition, he pursued additional graduate studies at The University of Montana, Missoula, and Montana State University, Bozeman, and has attended several seminars and workshops dealing with economics and investing.� Joe is a member of the American Economics Association, Western Economics Association, and The National Association of Forensic Economics.

 

He commenced his employment with Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology (Montana Tech) in 1968 as an instructor with the department of humanities and social sciences.� From 1971 to 1984, he earned promotions to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.� In 1973, he was named as registrar and director of admissions and served at this position until 1982; then he was named director of the evening program and summer school, where he served from 1982 to 1984.� As director of admissions, he initiated and developed an enrollment enhancement program which significantly bolstered Montana Tech�s enrollment from 683 FYFTEs (1973) to 1,531 FYFTEs (1981).� He returned to a full-time teaching position with the Business Department (Business and Information Technology) in 1984.

 

Joe�s first love at Montana Tech has always been teaching.� His students speak highly of his courses and his caring attitude.� Joe was always there to advise students or help a student with any problems.

 

In addition to his duties and responsibilities at Montana Tech, Joe has served as an economic consultant for over 100 legal firms and governmental agencies and has testified in district, superior, and federal courts as an expert witness, economist, on over 200 occasions.� He has also served as a fact finder and arbitrator for the Montana Board of Personnel Appeals and is currently serving a second term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Montana Tech Foundation.

 

With this recommendation go sincere thanks for 32 years of invaluable service to the State of Montana, Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology, and Montana Tech of the University of Montana.� Congratulations and best wishes for the future.
