THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University-Billings College of Technology to award the Associate of Applied Science degree in Practical Nursing to any student who completes the two year program with a 2.00 GPA or better.

EXPLANATION: The proposed award conversion for the Practical Nursing Program is appropriate within the Role and Scope of the College of Technology. Montana State University-Billings College of Technology has offered education for Practical Nurses since the early 1970's. The College of Technology participated in the Montana State University Task Force that sent a proposal to the Board of Regents in June of 1998, regarding this change in typology. The Commissioner accepted the task force report and agreed to continue the work this year. The Deputy Commissioner for Academic and Student Affairs subsequently set up meetings for the implementation of this plan. The current approved curriculum for the education of Practical Nurses contains the required number of credits, general education and technical, for the award of the Associate of Applied Science Degree.
