ITEM 103-1011-R0599 Resolution Concerning the Retirement of Bruce P. Budge, Professor of Accounting, School of Business Administration; The University of Montana-Missoula

THAT: Bruce P. Budge, Professor of Accounting, in his 18 years of service to The University of Montana, has merited the appreciation and commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned recognition as Professor of Business Administration Emeritus.

EXPLANATION: Bruce P. Budge earned his Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science from the University of Idaho. His Ph.D. in accounting is from the University of Minnesota. After teaching at the University of Idaho and Washington State University, the University’s Department of Accounting and Finance hired him as Professor of Accounting and the Department Chair.

Professor Budge’s love of teaching is apparent, as students testified when they recognized him as the Outstanding Undergraduate Accounting Teacher in 1998. Under his expert guidance, the department has seen a myriad of changes including semester transition, curriculum modifications, moving to a new building, and most recently applying for separate accounting accreditation.

Professor Budge has been actively involved in the Missoula Rotary where he served as District Governor and as President. He has also served as director and as a member of the advisory board of banks throughout Missoula, been a reviewer for the American Accounting Association, served on the editorial board of The Journal of Accounting Education, and directed the Western Montana Chapter of the National Association of Accountants.

Throughout his career at The University of Montana, Professor Budge served the University and the community with distinction. In this dedicated service he has earned the respect of his students, colleagues, and associates throughout the University and the State of Montana. The Board and the University are grateful.
