ITEM 103-2703-R0599 Authorization to Accept Transfer of Special Use Permit and Crippen Cabin; Montana State University-Billings

THAT: Consistent with provisions of the laws of the United States and the State of Montana, the Board of Regents of the Montana University System authorizes Montana State University-Billings to accept the transfer of a Special Use Permit issued by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and a cabin, known as the Crippen Cabin, in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area.

EXPLANATION:

  1. MSU-Billings has identified several educational programs that would gain direct benefit from the use of such a facility. Among these are Environmental Studies, Biological and Physical Sciences and Outdoor Recreation.
  2. Any use of the cabin would require the extension of the Special Use Permit that is currently in effect.
  3. Upon transfer MSU-Billings would be responsible for permit payments and liability and fire insurance premiums, as well as for scheduling and maintaining the cabin.
