ITEM 106-2004-R0300������ Authorization to Renovate the Gardiner House to become the MSU Presidents Residence; Montana State University - Bozeman

THAT:����������� ����������������������� Consistent with the provisions of MCA 18-2-102 (b), the Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University - Bozeman to renovate the Gardiner House to become the MSU Presidents Residence.� The estimated cost for this project is $250,000.

 

EXPLANATION:����������������� 1.�������� The Gardiner House was constructed in 1979, and was given to MSU-Bozeman in late 1994, upon the passing of the owner Henry Gardiner.

 

2.                  The wall, floor and ceiling finishes in the house are deteriorated and must be addressed; existing lighting is inadequate and inefficient requiring additional fixtures as well as replacement of existing; countertops and cabinetry needs to be updated; the house lacks a formal dining area; the house needs a humidification system due to the dry climate; and the exterior landscaping requires rejuvenation as well as additional lighting and maintenance to concrete surfaces.

 

3.                  The proposed alterations are intended to update the home=s interior finishes, provide a more adequate layout to handle functions required of the President's Residence, make necessary site improvements and complete other needed maintenance items and improvements.

 

4.                  The source of funds for this project will be a loan from Other Lawful Purpose (Pledged Revenues in excess of Indenture Obligations) Funds.� MSU-Bozeman intends to sell the Spring Creek Residence, the current Presidential Residence, and apply proceeds against said loan.
