ITEM 111-2851-R0501  Approval of Proposal to Add an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene; Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology

 

THAT:   The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology to award an Associate of Applied Science degree to any student who completes the required Dental Hygiene curriculum.

 

EXPLANATION: Dental hygienists are licensed dental health care professionals who specialize in periodontal therapy and oral health education. As part of the dental health team in private practice and community settings, dental hygienists assist dentists by conducting oral health assessments, treating periodontal disease, and providing follow-up care. They also provide a variety of preventive services, as well as nutrition counseling and community education.

In requesting authorization to offer this program, Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology responds to the urgent need for dental hygienists in Montana, as well as the need for high-skill, well-compensated career opportunities in this state.  ATTACHMENT
