ITEM: 114-2001-R0302    Authorization to Construct a Permanent Tennis Facility Structure at Montana State University - Bozeman

THAT: Consistent with the provisions of MCA 18-2-102 (2) (b), the Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University - Bozeman to replace the air-supported tennis structure, at the Montana State University - Bozeman campus, with a permanent metal structure. The estimated cost for this project is $750,000.

EXPLANATION: 1.  The MSU indoor tennis courts are currently housed in an air-supported structure which is costly to operate and presents unique operations and maintenance challenges. This project will replace the existing air-supported structure with a permanent metal structure. This replacement should significantly lower utility and maintenance costs for the facility.

2.         The tennis facility at MSU is a self-supporting operation that is used by MSU students, the MSU tennis team, faculty, staff and the community.

3.         This project will include the sale of the existing air-supported structure (originally purchased with a specific, directed donation), and the resulting sale proceeds will be reinvested in the current project.

4.         This project will be financed with revenue from the tennis facility operations. This project will result in no new programs.
