 ITEM 122-2008-R0104   Authorization to Renovate Portions of Roskie Hall; Montana State University-Bozeman

 

THAT: Consistent with the provisions of MCA-18-2-102(b), the Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes MSU-Bozeman to renovate portions of Roskie Hall. This request is for a total of $275,000.

EXPLANATION: 1. Roskie Hall was constructed in 1967, as a high-rise residence hall for undergraduate students and has had very little renovation during its long service life.

2. This project will change existing double-occupancy rooms on the upper floors into more attractive super-single occupancy rooms.

3. This project will be financed with funds from Auxiliary Operations Revenues (Renewal and Replacement Budget) in excess of debt service obligations.

This authority request is for an amount greater than $150,000, which requires the following additional information.

 

(a) Project description

The work performed under this authority encompasses the units on several of the upper floors of the building and will include removing existing built-in furnishings, painting, flooring, and renovation of existing restrooms on each floor.

(b) Cost Estimate and Funding Sources

         Design $ 45,000

         Construction $200,000

         Contingency$ 30,000

Total $275,000

         Funding sources will be a mix of non-state funds from Auxiliary Operations Revenues (Renewal and Replacement Budget), in excess of debt service obligations.

 

(c) Programs Served, Enrollment Data, Projected Enrollments

The work to be completed under this authority addresses residence hall serving student occupants and will not directly impact university programs or enrollments.

 

(d) Space Utilization Data

While residence hall occupancies remain high, modernization of facilities to meet demands for more single-occupant living spaces is necessary to maintain market viability.

 

(e) Projected use for available residual space

(Not Applicable to this request)

 

(f) Projected O&M Costs and proposed funding sources

O&M costs for this facility are born by Auxiliaries Services and are not expected to be significantly impacted by this project since the facility is not being expanded.
