NOTICE OF INTENT Approval of Proposal to Convert the Bachelor of Arts Option in Business and Communications to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with Three Options in Computer Technology, Business Administration, and Tourism; The University of Montana-Western

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes The University of Montana-Western to convert the Bachelor of Arts Option in Business and Communications to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with Three Options in Computer Technology, Business Administration, and Tourism.

EXPLANATION: UM-Western's Bachelor of Arts Option in Business and Communications currently has an enrollment of over 200 students, representing 20 percent of the College's total enrollment. Relatively minor modifications to the option that require no additional faculty or resources will allow the option's conversion to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with three options. The proposed three options in the B.S. degree mirror the existing related areas (secondary options) in the current B.A. option. The B.S. option will feature an increased emphasis on developing appropriate professional skills and knowledge. All course work required by students currently enrolled in the B.A. option will continue as offerings in the new B.S. degree.
