Award Montana
The Student Assistance department of the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education is excited to share the new interactive Award Montana Portal, a centralized site for Professional Student Exchange programs, the MUS Scholarship and Waivers, and the Physician and Nursing Loan Repayment Programs available in Montana.
This intuitive application system combines state-of-the-art technology with integrated application software to make applying for these programs easy, organized, and manageable. The Award Montana Portal also streamlines all reporting and submission elements from applicants to employers to program administrators more effectively and efficiently.
In addition, the portal allows for a more interactive and user-friendly application experience and streamlined program management by use of award notifications, automated award renewals, and electronic delivery of contracts and agreements. Professional and Loan Repayment Programs:
Through WICHE, WWAMI, Minnesota Dental, ICOM, and WIMU Regional Veterinary, the state offers professional level educational programs and provides tuition assistance in specific healthcare fields not otherwise available in Montana. The certification application cycle is open August 1 – October 15 (Veterinary Medicine due September 1) annually.
This program encourages physicians to provide service to rural and medically underserved areas and populations in Montana, by providing up to $150,000 in education loan repayment. The application cycle is open May 1 – August 1 annually.
This loan repayment program is for individuals currently employed as full-time registered professional nurses at either the Montana State Prison or the Montana State Hospital. The application cycle opens March 1 – May 15 annually.
Scholarship and Waiver Programs
Open to graduating high school seniors, the MUS Honor Scholarship is a 4-year renewable scholarship that waives tuition when used at an eligible campus. The average value of the Honor Scholarship at a 4-year campus is $20,000. Applications open December 1 and are due by March 15 annually, the year the student graduates from high school.
Open to graduating high school seniors, these awards are designed to provide incentives for Montana high school students to prepare for, enter into, and complete degrees in fields related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and healthcare. The award is $6,000 over 4 years at an eligible campus. Applications open December 1 and are due by March 15 annually, the year the student graduates from high school.
These scholarships are available to students in 2-year Trade or Technology programs at qualifying campuses. Full-time recipients receive $1,000 and part-time recipients receive $500. Applications for the Fall semester are due by September 15; Spring semester applications are due by February 15.
These waivers are available to MT National Guard members at any MUS campus (Community Colleges are encouraged to offer the MNGTW) and are applied as last dollar awards up to the cost of resident student tuition. Students must apply no later than the third week of the first semester for which they are requesting the waiver.
